Can researchers with foreign nationality use a Boson, Tau2, or Quark2 camera at our facility in the U.S.?

Tau2 640 30Hz and 60Hz cameras are dual-use products as classified under Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) 6A003.b.4.b., along with the Tau2 336, 324, 168, 162 and 160 cameras, as well as the Quark2 336 camera.

The “Use” of these dual-use cameras – which is defined in the Export Administration regulations as “Operation, installation (including on-site installation), maintenance (checking), repair, overhaul, and refurbishing” – is not controlled, so no authorization is needed to allow non-U.S. persons and affiliates to use FLIR cameras that are classified as dual-use when in the U.S.

FLIR's Quark2 640 30Hz and Quark2 640 60Hz models remain controlled by the U.S. Department of State and are subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). The “Use” of any ITAR-controlled cameras requires that prior authorization be obtained from the U.S. Department to allow non-U.S. persons and affiliates to use these FLIR cameras.
