Maintenance personnel must routinely monitor Load Tap Changers (LTCs) for signs of trouble, including leaks, hot spots, and low oil levels. These systems have built-in gauges that aren’t always correct, and they can be difficult to check or even reach with traditional tools. Thermal imaging can help inspectors assess the health of LTCs and monitor them in real-time to ensure transformers are running at peak performance.
