Amplifying Fluorescent Polymers (AFP)

Our explosives detectors provide accuracy and sensitivity derived from a unique amplifying fluorescent polymer (AFP), which we use under an exclusive license from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). AFP dramatically increases the signal strength from the molecules of interest.

Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry (GCMS)

Mass spectrometry is the standard laboratory technology for detecting, differentiating and identifying trace levels of chemical compounds in complex environments. The mass of a chemical is a definitive and measurable quantity. A mass spectrometer measures a physio-chemical characteristic: the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) of an ion. Thus, it provides more information about the chemical make-up of a sample than most other sensor technologies can detect. Mass spectrometry is also a very selective technology. Within one complex sample, multiple chemicals can be separated out and identified, even those that are very similar in chemical structure.

Bio Aerosol Fluorescence

The Fido B2 - IBAC is a commercial product manufactured and available from FLIR Systems to provide real-time and fully automatic detection of aerosolized biological agents. The detector is designed to operate unattended and continuously for 24/7/365 without consumables. The device is 0.4 cubic feet (11.3 liters) in size, weighs 13.0 lbs (5.9 kg) and consumes approximately 20 watts of power.

Direct Sampling Mass Spec

Mass spectrometry is the standard laboratory technology for detecting, differentiating and identifying trace levels of chemical compounds in complex chemical environments. Mass spectrometers are uniquely sensitive and accurate. They extract chemical signatures from test samples much more quickly and accurately than is possible with alternative technologies. They eliminate false positives. However, most conventionally designed units are too big and cumbersome to be deployed outside of a laboratory.

Our units provide unparalleled selectivity through multidimensional mass analysis, MS/MS or MSn. MS/MS provides both a first-stage mass analysis to determine if a particular analyte of interest is present in a test sample, and, within milliseconds, a second-stage confirmation of the analyte's identity. Analysis this precise has never before been available in a person-portable unit for use in the field.

Enzymes

The capability to effectively incorporate enzymes within polyurethane foams is an integral part of the advanced technology research done at FLIR. We have effectively extended this platform technology to multiple enzyme systems with a diverse range of clinical applications. Numerous benefits such as improved stability, reusability, and environmental resistance are incurred when enzymes are effectively co-polymerized within polyurethane polymers.
